Georgie of the Month

A Georgie is an ACT volunteer, whether an onstage actor, technician or behind-the-scenes helper. We rely on our volunteers to help take care of our beloved theatre as well as to help put on the quality shows that the community has come to enjoy for the past 139 seasons.

Full interview with Tyler Tennell: How long have you been involved in theater? Since 2007 when I got involved with the department at my old high school in New Braunfels at Canyon High school, so around 18 years!

What is the attraction to you and theater? Why do you do it? I got into it because I felt I was funny and needed a fine arts credit. Thankfully my HS theater director agreed, told me I had real talent with it and she encouraged me to stick with it. That led me being apart of the department for the rest of high school. That led me to going to College for it which is what brought me out here, and over my years of doing this, I’ve learned I do it because I love telling stories. A lot of these stories have reasons to be told and we can learn a lot by telling them. To me, these stories that are told through live theater are the closest thing we have to time travel, and that is important.

What was your first show ever… What was your first show at ACT? My first show ever was at my HS in 2007. It was Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” I played the roles of “Valentine”, and I also played the role of “Old Joe.” Fast forward, my first here at ACT was Fiddler on the Roof back in 2014! I played the “Constable” and this place has been my home away from home since!

What has been your favorite show that you have done at ACT? Looking back at the thirty shows I’ve done here at ACT, I’ll tell you, it’s a hard choice. But I really think I’d have to go with our recent production of “Wait Until Dark.” To me, I think that’s is one of the best acted shows we’ve ever put on the stage. Another reason this show really meant a lot to me is I felt like I got to watch a bunch of my friends truly grow as performers in this show and take huge steps in showing everyone what they have to offer. I love that cast, we all grew extremely close and truly bonded. I don’t think I’ve let go of that show. I know for sure I haven’t let go of the character I played in it, Mike Talman. (see picture above)

Why do you love ACT? I love ACT for a lot of reasons. ACT has been a place for me through many hard times. This place was and is important to me in my journey with my sobriety. I feel like a part of me is always here at ACT, it’s a home I feel comfortable in. For many of us, it is a home. One where we can feel safe and can be ourselves. And because of that we are very passionate and protective of our people and our home.

What are some of your hobbies outside the theater world? Outside of the theater world I am a twitch streamer and content creator! I stream retro video game content and other games!

What else is an interesting fact about you?

I’m going on 6 years of sobriety come May 13th. My sobriety is something I’m very proud of in my life.

Congratulations to our Georgie of the Month, Stevi Stevens! Stevi is a ray of sunshine wherever she goes. From dancing onstage in musicals, executing perfect comedic timing or acting in a mystery (like in her current role in The Hound of the Baskervilles), Stevi is the consummate professional. Stevi has also served behind the scenes with costuming, in the booth running the light board and helping out during work days. Angelo Civic Theatre is successful because of the talent and passion of volunteers like Stevi. Thank you for all you do for ACT Stevi!

January's Georgie of the Month is Robyn Goldman-Hatley. It feels like Robyn has always been at ACT, although her roots and family are in Massachusetts. Robyn started dancing at age 2, learning tap and ballet. She continued her dance education over time to include musical theatre dance and pointe. In the 3rd grade, Robyn starred in her first play, "The Littlest Witch" and later performed in middle school plays and in summer theatre programs. She recounts seeing shows in NYC as part of a college class as an electric experience which furthered her love of theatre.

Robyn moved to San Angelo 12 years ago and has been married to her husband, Matt, for almost 4 years. She is a trainer for HHS and is a voracious reader in her spare time. About her experience at ACT, Robyn says, "ACT is the first place I have felt accepted. When I got there, people wanted to get to know me for me! It was different than what I had experienced before. I wish I had known about this theatre sooner!" Robyn has spent countless hours at Angelo Civic Theatre in a variety of roles, for which we are thankful. We are most thankful, however, to call her friend! Congratulations Robyn!
